Rules for Safety & Enjoyment
- Make a plan to go and be prepared:
- Pack food and hydration for 3+ hours.
- Bring both front and rear lights for your bikes (there will be a small section of the course that will either cross/run along roads with traffic).
- Notify someone of your planned course and estimated time of arrival and plan for a recon team in case you get lost.
- Bring a phone to contact 911 in an emergency or support if you need a pick-up.
- Carry a GPS system and use Strava to track your course.
- Wear an approved cycling helmet at all times.
- Be a smart cyclist, citizen and nature advocate:
- Watch for cars, follow road rules and use extra caution as we explore some backwoods roads – those 4x4s might not be expecting you.
- Do not trespass and respect all property public or private.
- Consider riding with a family member or someone you are already in close contact with.
- Maintain social distancing, wear a mask and use proper hand hygiene if stopping for a snack or visiting your buddy’s deer camp by invite.
- Wear and bring clothing and equipment appropriate for the conditions (i.e. be prepared for rain, cold weather, or extreme heat – we are in the UP).
- Use high-visibility clothing. While we are avoiding deer season, there may be others using the woods or roadways.
- Participate and share
- You have two weeks to complete your race/ride from the course launch date.
- Individuals with the best times for long and short races without hacking their Strava or taking a shortcut will be recognized at the end of the events.
- If you are not happy with your time, feel free to repeat the course and post the time you are happiest with – who are we to get in the way of your enjoyment.
- If you leave the course for dinner back home and want to go back, start over.

- Learned something you want to share with other riders, share your thoughts on Strava or on our dedicated UPCross page. Please keep all comments positive and constructive, but also humorous.
